In this tab I will show the final outcome of recyling projects done out of stuff normally used once and then discarded. I have always been really interested in protecting the environment and have had a particular interest in transforming objetcs, not only to give them other uses but also to turn them into works of art. Eventhough artistic recycling means lots more work than using prepared material to be decorated, helping our planet is something that is, definitely, worth it!
Reciclando un marco viejo de madera::: Recycling an old wooden window frame
Hice esta repisa para el baño de mi taller empleando un marco de madera viejo. Era la parte donde estaban insertados los vitrovenes, por eso es angosto. Como las paredes de mi baño combinan tonos azul y blanco, empleé esos colores para la repisa. Los bordes los decoré con papel reciclado texturado sobre el que incrusté cáscaras de semillas de girasol simulando flores. Finalmente usé una capa de barniz transparente para proteger la pieza.
Se ve mucho mejor en directo, pero pueden hacerse una buena idea del resultado.

I made this shelf for my workshop bathroom using an old wooden window frame. It was the frame where the lattice was inserted, which explains why it´s narrow. Since my bathroom combines blue and white, I used those colors to paint the shelf.
I decorated the frame with textured recycled paper where I inserted sunflower seed peels resembling flowers. I finally used a transparent paint coat to protect the piece.
It looks much better than in the pics, but you can get a very good idea of the outcome.

Utilicé latas de pintura y de desodorante en spray para hacer las flores y hojas en este proyecto. Hice el marco con papel reciclado sobre un marco de madera viejo que conservé luego de la renovación de las puertas de una alacena.
Utilizando una tijera especial para cortar este material, primero corté tanto la base como la parte superior de las latas con mucho cuidado . Es demasiado fácil herirse, así que ésto debe hacerse con mucho cuidado. Sugiero usar guantes gruesos. La parte interna de las latas de pintura puede ser plateada o dorada, lo que da la posibilidad de lograr distintas tonalidades de color. Corté los pétalos de las flores y las hojas y lijé los bordes. Luego marqué nervaduras con un objeto punzante y les dí la forma deseada. Armé las flores empleando silicona. Para los tallos empleé alambre de cobre.

I used spay paint and deodorant cans to make the flowers and leaves in this project. I made the frame with recycled paper on an old wooden frame Y kept after the renewal af a cabinet doors.
Using special scissors to cut this material, I first cut both the base and the top part of the cans. It´s too easy to get hurt, so this has to be done carefully. I suggest wearing thick gloves. The inside part of the cans can be silver or golden, which allows you to get different color shades. I cut the flower petals and the leaves and sanded the borders. Then, I used a pointed object to mark the nervation and shaped them as desired. I put the pieces together using silicone. For the branches, I used copper wire.

Hice este joyero a partir del estuche plástico de algunos productos de belleza. Añadí las separaciones para las joyas empleando cajas de jabón de tocador. La decoración está hecha a base de papel reciclado, algo de porcelana flexible y hojas secas.

I made this jewelry box out of a beauty products plastic container. I added the compartments using cardboard soap boxes. The decoration is made with recycled paper, some flexible porcelain, and dry leaves.
"Mueble para herramientas ::: Little chest of drawers for tools"
Se me ocurrió hacer este mueble para mis herramientas con 20 cajas tetrapack, cartón, papel reciclado, trozos de nordex para la estructura externa, tapas de botellas de gaseosas, y hojas secas que mi hermana reunió para mi :)
Me gusta mucho el resultado y me está facilitando la vida en el taller. Solía tener mis herramientas en tapers, pero ahora están mejor organizadas y mucho más a la mano.
Puedes utilizarlas como costureros -con el número de cajones que desees- o emplear cajas tetrapack pequeñas para hacer un joyero.

I got the idea of making this "chest of drawers" for my tools with 20 milk cartons, cardboard, recycled paper, pieces of MDF for the outer structure, soft drink bottle caps, and dry leaves my sis gathered for me :)
I really like the result and it is making my life easier at the workshop. I used to keep my tools in tapers, but now they are better organized and at hand.
You can use them as sewing boxes -with the number of drawers you want- or use small tetrapack cartons to make a jewelry box.
"Cabecera de cama ::: Beadhead"
El proyecto de hacer esta cabecera para mi cama estuvo en mis planes un buen tiempo y nació luego de hacer un velador reciclando de 3 cajones de un mueble inservible. Finalmente la hice y me encanta el resultado. Espero te guste también.
Esta cabecera está hecha con una masa que hago para reciclar papel y cartón, una base de nordex sobre la que apliqué la masa y le di forma de ladrillos, y un marco que hice con madera.
Mi siguiente proyecto será hacer las mesitas de noche que le hagan juego!

The making of a beadhead for my bed was on my mind for quite a long time and was born after making a bedside table using 3 drawers of an useless piece of furniture. I finally did it and love the outcome. I hope you like it, too.
This beadhead was made using a dough I make to recycle paper and cardboard, a piece of MDF over which I applied the dough and shaped it like bricks, and a wooden frame Y made.
My next project will be to make the bedside tables that fit it!
"Porta Velas::: Candle Holder"
Solía deshacerme de las tazas cuando se les rompían las asas, pero desde que me interesa tanto el reciclado, he estado buscando formas de reutilizarlas creando distintos objetos. Ahora reciclo tazas, platos, bandejas, contenedores plásticos, latas, botellas, etc.
Utilizando un par de tazas hice un porta-velas para mi cuñada y la otro para mi hija - en realidad, ella simplemente se lo quedó! :) La única diferencia entre ambas es que una está forrada con porcelana flexible y tiene un acabado muy distinto al de la taza original. El otro está adornado justo donde solía estar el asa, tapando así la rotura pero manteniendo el acabado original que le gustaba a mi cuñada. Espero te gusten!

I used to throw away cups that had lost their handles, but since I became highly interested in recycling I have been looking for ways to reuse them by creating different objects. Now, I recycle cups, plates, trays, plastic containers, cans, bottles, etc.
Using a couple of cups I made a candle holder for my sister- in-law and one for my daughter -actually, she just took it! :) - The only difference between the two of them is that one is covered by flexible porcelain and has a completely different finish from that of the original cup. The other one is adorned just over the spot where the handle used to be, hence covering the chip, but keeping the original finish my sis-in-law liked. I hope you like them!

"Alcancía ::: Piggy bank"
Decoré esta alcancía con la técnica que he denominado "patchwork" por su semejanza con la misma. Empleé una alcancía rota, papel reciclado, porcelana, oleos y acrílicos.

I decorated this piggy bank using the technique I call "patchwork" because of its resemblance with it. I used a broken piggy bank, recycled paper, porcelain, oil and acrylic paints.
Porta cucharones:::Ladle Holder
Este es un porta cucharones que elaboré tomando como base 2 cajas de leche. Lo decoré en base a papel que reciclé, texturé, y pinté con acrílicos. Finalmente modelé las uvas verdes y las hojas en porcelana flexible buscando la mayor naturalidad posible. Es un objeto muy útil y decorativo. Incluyo también fotos de un porta cucharones adornado con flores.

This is a ladle holder I made using 2 cartons of milk. I decorated it using paper I recycled, textured, and painted with acrylics. Finally, I made the green grapes and the leaves in flexible porcelain trying to get the most natural outcome possible. It is a very useful and decorative object. I am also including pics of a ladle holder decorated with flowers.

Hice este baúl utilizando la caja de cartón de una botella de whiskey, Para la decoración empleé papel reciclado, cerámica y un jalador viejo del cajón de un mueble .

Panera y servilletero ::: Bread Basket and Napkin Holder
Para hacer la panera, empleé parte del envase de pollo a la brasa empleado en un supermercado. Para el servilletero, empleé una caja de leche. En la decoración se usó papel reciclado y cerámica.

La estructura base de este porta cucharones consiste en dos cajas de leche. Utilicé además papel reciclado para dar fortaleza a las cajas. Para adornarlo usé una combinación de flores hechas en cerámica. Sin embargo, las flores naranja fueron resultado de un experimento hecho con migas de pan . Empleé oleos y acrílicos.

The basic structure of this ladle holder consists of two milk cartons. I also used recycled paper to strenghten them. To adornr it I used a combination of flowers made in ceramics. However, the orange flowers were the resulkt of an experiment done with bread crumbs. I used oil and acrylic paints.
